No. 22 Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Saint Joseph's

Norristown, Pa. - The University of Richmond combined for 21 runs and 27 hits to sweep an Atlantic 10 doubleheader against Saint Joseph's at Elmwood Park in Norristown, Pa. The Spiders prevail 10-2 in the first game on 13 hits and use a 14-hit effort to lead an 11-5 victory in the second contest.
In the first game, Richmond starter Tim Stauffer improved to 10-0 on the season with his seventh complete game. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out seven in 7.0 innings. Sophomore catcher Chris Dolan, making his first start behind the plate, went 4-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. He missed the cycle by a double. Freshman first baseman Jim Fasano enjoyed his homecoming by going 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Horsham, Pa. native stroked two singles and a double.
In the second game, center fielder Bryan Pritz went 4-5 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Spider attack. He delivered a pair of two-run hits to capture the eighth consecutive Atlantic 10 win. Designated hitter A.J. Board stroked the other multiple-hit game, going 2-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore Matt McLoughlin earned his third win of the season, allowing three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
GAME 1
The Spiders (27-3, 8-0 Atlantic 10) used a pair of two-run homers to take a 4-0 lead in the first. Junior Chris Dolan shot to center field.
Richmond added three more in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Center fielder Bryan Pritz walked and scored on a Reaver double to the left center gap. Reaver then scored on a Fasano single through the left side. Chiaravalloti scored his second run of the game when Dolan singled.
The visitors added to their lead in the fourth. Chiaravalloti led off the frame with a walk and came all the way home on a Fasano single to right center. It was Fasano's third hit and second RBI of the game. The first baseman then scored when Dolan lifted a triple into the right center corner. The third run of the inning came home when Dolan scored on a Brian Ruscello single through the third baseman's glove. Richmond led 10-0.
The Hawks (4-24-1, 1-7 Atlantic 10) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth. John Kokol reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a single, to third on another single and scored on a Stauffer wild pitch. Saint Joseph's second run came home on a passed ball when Jim Kelly scored with two outs in the sixth. The lead was 10-2 heading into the final inning.
GAME 2
The Spiders jumped ahead again in the first inning of the second game, 2-0. Pritz led off with a walk and Reaver reached when the St. Joe's third baseman booted his grounder. Both runners came home on a Chiaravalloti single to center. Reaver extended his career-long hit streak to 23 games with a single in the sixth.
Spider starter Tim Rice walked the bases loaded in the second but diffused the jam by catching Michael DeLorenzo looking on a 1-2 pitch. A lead off walk hurt Rice in the third when Kevin Dougher scored on a Justin Godusky triple with two outs. The Spiders led 2-1 after three.
Richmond increased its lead to 3-1 with an unearned run in the fourth. Fasano reached on an error and scored on a Matt McLoughlin came in relief and retired Pace Bradshaw on a comeback grounder to end the threat.
The visitors opened their lead to 5-2 with two runs in the fifth. Pritz singled to start the inning, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Matt Craig sac fly. With two outs, Chiaravalloti worked the count and walked. Fasano then delivered a single to right field where the right fielder over ran the ball and Chiaravalloti came around to score Richmond's fifth run.
The Hawks got the two runs back in their half of the fifth to close within 5-4. Michael Walls led off with a triple and scored on a Godusky double. Godusky then scored on a John Kokol sac fly to center field.
Richmond scored two more in the sixth, on four hits, to take a 7-4 lead. Pritz roped a two-run double down the right field line to score A.J. Board and Cronin. The Hawks closed to 7-5 with an unearned run in their sixth when Dougher came home on a fielder's choice.
The Spiders blew open the game with a four-run seventh. Chris Dolan laced a single to left that took a strange hop and escaped the left fielder. Wilson came around to score and Dolan winded up at third on the error. Dolan then scored on a Bobby LeNoir single to center. Two more runs scored on a Pritz single through the middle. It was his third and fourth RBI of the game.
The Spiders and Hawks complete their three-game set at Noon on Sunday, April 7.
