Three-Student Athletes Garner Weekly Conference Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -Three University of Richmond student-athletes received Atlantic 10 honors for their outstanding play this past week. Senior Jenna Merriam (Voorhees, N.J.) was named Women's Soccer co-Player of the Week. Senior Ruth Chege (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was tabbed Cross Country Performer of the Week while freshman Michelle La Force (Centreville, Va.) was selected Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.
A senior forward, Merriam scored two goals and added an assist in the Spiders' 3-0 victory over George Washington on Saturday evening. She notched the game-winner and improved her points total to six for the season. Merriam is second on team in goals scored and third in points.
Chege earned the weekly honor after bolting across the finish line at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Charlotte, N.C. this past weekend. She finished the Women's Seeded 5k in a time of 19:45.1, finishing 60th among 174 competitors. The Spiders finished 19th in the event.
La Force scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist in Richmond's 5-0 win over Towson on Sunday at Crenshaw Field. The freshman back's stellar defense helped the Spiders record their third shutout of the season.
