Newman, Zinn Lift Spiders Past St. Bonaventure in Season Finale

RICHMOND, Va. — The University of Richmond women's soccer team closed the 2025 regular season on a high note Sunday afternoon, defeating St. Bonaventure 2-1 at President's Field. With the result, the Spiders finished the 2025 campaign 4-7-7 overall and 1-5-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Bonnies fell to 4-11-3, 1-8-1 (A-10).
How It Happened
Richmond came out on the front foot, generating sustained pressure in the opening 20 minutes. Brigitte Bussiere forced an early save in the third minute, while Morgane Zinn and Julia Lishia added shots on goal to test St. Bonaventure keeper Juliana Castellano. The breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute when freshman Emma Newman slotted home her team-leading sixth goal of the season off a feed from fellow rookie Morgane Zinn, giving Richmond a 1-0 advantage.
The Spiders continued to dictate play throughout the half, outshooting the Bonnies 13-4 before the break and forcing six saves from Castellano. Paige West registered three of her team-high four shots in the period, including two on frame, while Jess Moylan and Sydney Bortz each threatened from distance.
Richmond kept the tempo high after halftime and earned six corner kicks in the second half to stay on the front foot. Marisa Snee and Kiley Fitzgerald each fired attempts on goal before the Spiders doubled their lead in the 73rd minute. Zinn found the back of the net for her second goal of the year, finishing a well-built sequence started from the corner by Anna Garcia and Bortz to make it 2-0.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the 86th minute when Giovanna Coghetto converted a penalty. Despite the goal from the opposition, Richmond's back line closed out the final minutes to preserve the victory. Spider keeper Veronica Rrapi finished with four saves to secure her fourth win of the year and cap a strong season between the posts.
Notes on the Game

Season Lookback
Richmond finished the 2025 season with a 4-7-7 overall record and a 1-5-4 mark in Atlantic 10 play, recording six shutouts. Emma Newman paced the attack with six goals and two assists for 14 points, followed by Brigitte Bussiere (2-1–5), Morgane Zinn (2-1–5), and Kiley Fitzgerald (2-0–4). Julia Lishia (3), Newman (2) and Anna Garcia (2) led the team in assists.
The Spiders opened the year with a 5-0 win over VMI, their largest margin of victory since 2014, before earning early draws vs Radford and at Howard. Richmond closed nonconference play with a 1-1 draw at Longwood, where Brooke Wilson scored her first career goal in the 88th minute off a Lishia assist.
Conference play featured four straight setbacks to open A-10 action before Richmond regrouped for a 0-0 draw vs Rhode Island, a 0-0 draw at Loyola Chicago, and a 1-1 home draw with George Washington. The Spiders ended the year unbeaten in their final two contests, drawing 0-0 at Saint Joseph's and defeating St. Bonaventure in the finale.
Individually, Rrapi was a defensive standout, ranking second in the Atlantic 10 in save percentage (.860), first in saves per game (5.33) and tied for fourth in shutouts (6). She earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 13 after a five-save performance at Loyola Chicago.
The freshman class made a strong impact, sweeping Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors in three straight weeks to open the season, Newman (Aug. 18), Zinn (Aug. 25) and Lishia (Sept. 2). Newman also received TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honorable mention on Aug. 20.
Richmond concluded the season ranked among the league's top defensive units, sitting fifth in goals-against average (0.94) and third in save percentage (.843) entering the final weekend. The Spiders' six shutouts were the most since 2021, and their seven draws broke the record set in 2005 (4).
