Women's Golf Completes First Event In Program History

N. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The University of Richmond women's golf team finished its first varsity event in 30th place at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Playing on the par-72 Bay Tree Golf Plantation, head coach LaRee Sugg led five freshmen in their first collegiate event. After firing a 335 in the first-ever round, and following that with a second-round 337, the Spiders came together for the best tally yet, a 333 in the final round on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Sarah O'Neill led the Spiders with a three-round 249 (83-82-84) and tied for 115th. Lesley Monachino's third-round 80 was the lowest round shot by a UR player at the event. She added a first-round 84 and a second-round 88 for a final 252.
Whitney McComis (85-85-86--256), Elizabeth Cushing (83-82-95--260) and Lauren Ritter (88-92-83--263) also competed for Richmond in this inaugural event.
UNC-Wilmington solidified the team title by firing a third-round 295, five shots better than the next competitor. The Seahawks improved by four strokes each round to propel themselves to victory. East Carolina's Adrienne Millican won the event after carding a three-round 218 (73-71-74).
Richmond returns to the links at the Kentucky Invitational from September 13-15 in Lexington, Ky.
