Football Downs New Hampshire for First Win

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Bryson Spinner threw for 237 and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Richmond to 35-23 victory over New Hampshire in Atlantic 10 Conference football.
Spinner completed touchdown passes of 9 yards to Jake Schools and 12 yards to Boyd Ouden. The Spiders (1-5, 1-4 Atlantic 10) also had touchdown runs of 4 yards from Kenny Dantzler and 7 yards from David Edwards. Clement Johnson scored Richmond's first touchdown on an 86-yard kickoff return.
The Wildcats, (2-6, 0-5 Atlantic 10) scored on their first possession of the game when R.J. Harvey capped a 78-yard drive with a 1-yard run. Johnson's kickoff return tied the game 7-7.
Wildcat quarterback Mike Granieri injured his left leg midway through the first quarter and did not return until the final play of the third quarter.
New Hampshire's Matt Skoby connected with David Bailey for a 58-yard score with 46 seconds remaining in the first half. Corey Graham added to the score scored on a blocked extra point following Ouden's touchdown and Granieri connected with Paul Mckinney on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 4:08 remaining in the game.
The Wildcats dominated the first half, outgaining Richmond 274 - 152. The Spiders dominated the third quarter by outgaining New Hampshire 183-30 yards.
Notes from today's game
* Senior Bryson Spinner completed 13-of-22 passes for 237 yards - his fourth consecutive game with 200+ passing yards - and two touchdowns.
* Senior Kenny Dantzler ran for his second touchdown in as many games. He leads the team with three rushing touchdowns.
* Senior David Edwards carried a career-high 20 times.
* Senior Boyd Ouden made eight catches for the third consecutive game. His 138 receiving yards was a season high and just seven yards from a career high set last year against Maine.
* Sophomore Stacy Tutt threw his first two passes of the season, completing both.
* Junior Danny Young made eight tackles - tied for a team-high five solo - and made his first interception of the year. Young also recorded three pass deflections.
* Damien McCallum made a career-high 10 tackles, becoming the sixth different Spider to lead the team in tackles.
* Redshirt freshman Ryan Cameron made a career-high nine stops.
* Sophomore David Gracia made four tackles, 2.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks and broke up a pass.
* After New Hampshire took the opening kick and drove it for a touchdown, Johnson responded with an 86-yard return to tie the game. It was the first Spider touchdown on a kick-off return since Oct. 2, 1999 when Cordell Roane returned a kick 90 yards at Delaware.
* The Spiders had a PAT blocked and returned for two points for the first time since a Penn player accomplished the feat on Sept. 26, 1998.
