UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond's senior class combined for 45 points - 28 of the Spiders' 33 in the second-half -- to carry Richmond into the Guardians Classic semifinals with a 63-49 win against New Hampshire tonight at the Robins Center.
After leading by six at halftime (30-24) on the strength of 5-of-7 shooting from Mike Skrocki (12 points), Richmond watched New Hampshire's Marcus Bullock catch fire from behind the arc, bringing the Wildcats (1-1) to within four points (52-48) with 3:29 to play. The Spiders settled down and scored 11 of the final 12 points to seal the victory.
Skrocki, the Guardians Classic Richmond Regional Most Valuable Player, led the Spiders with 18 points. He also scored 18 in last night's 62-46 win against Mississippi Valley State.
Senior Tony Dobbins contributed an outstanding all-around effort, scoring 12 points and adding nine rebounds and six assists. Classmate Reggie Brown scored all of his 12 points in the second half, while senior Eric Zwayer was a force inside, scoring three points, grabbing four boards and dishing four assists.
Richmond (2-0) held its second consecutive opponent to less than 50 points by out-rebounding (40-28) and forcing 17 turnovers. UNH's Bullock scored a game-high 21 points, 15 in the second half, nearly half of the Wildcats' 49 points.
The Spiders will play Monday night in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium.
