BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Four Spiders scored in double figures but 24 turnovers helped UAB post an 83-75 win against Richmond in Bartow Arena on Saturday night.
The Spiders led 25-20 with 3:05 to play in the first half after Jamaal Scott converted 1-of-2 free throws, but the Blazers ripped off 11 straight points to go ahead 31-25 at the break. UAB led by as many as 13 in the second half, never letting the Spiders get within striking distance.
Senior Tony Dobbins recorded his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. He went 7-for-9 from the free throw line and added four assists and four steals. Patrick O'Malley (15), Mike Skrocki (14) and Daon Merritt (12) also reached double figures. Merritt dished a game-high seven assists.
UAB was led by the Taylor twins. Donell scored 18, nine from the charity stripe, and Ronell scored 13.
Richmond returns to action at 7:30 on Wednesday against VCU in the Robins Center.
