
Men's Basketball Falls to St. Bonaventure, 61-55

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- St. Bonaventure (11-11, 5-4 A-10) handed the University of Richmond (12-8, 6-3) its second straight home loss, a 61-55 decision on Saturday evening at the Robins Center. The Spiders and Bonnies combined to shoot a disparaging 31.7 percent from the field (33-104).
Junior forward Mike Skrocki paced the Spiders with 14 points while Tony Dobbins added 13. St. Bonaventure junior point guard Marques Green registered a game-high 27 points, including a10-10 performance from the free throw line.
Richmond jumped out to an early advantage in the first half, leading by as many as nine points (13-4). The Spiders boasted a seven-point edge after a Patrick O'Malley lay-in with 4:41 on the clock. The Bonnies, though, would out-score their hosts, 10-1, to close the stanza en route to posting a 20-19 halftime lead. Green scored eight of the Bonnies' final 10 points of the half.
The Bonnies scored just one field goal in the first six minutes of the second half as Richmond regained control, registering a four-point lead with 14:00 to play. The Spiders would miss six of its next seven shots as the visitors took a 35-30 lead on a high-flying Green 3-pointer with 8:23 remaining part of a 9-2 run. The Bonnies pushed the lead to 11 in the final four minutes, while the Spiders played catch-up. Four Richmond 3-pointers, two from Skrocki, in the final minute could not help the Spiders gain ground on the Bonnies, who shot a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe in the last 1:27 of the game.
Richmond hits the road for a Wednesday evening Atlantic 10 contest at Massachusetts (8-14, 2-7).
