Baseball Opens at Home Against Delaware State

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Spiders' baseball (2-0) opens at home Sunday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. against Delaware State (1-7). The Sunday contest begins a game of five in a row for the Spiders.
Richmond will host Virginia (1-3) at Pitt Field in a doubleheader on Monday, March 3 at 12:00 p.m. The team then travels to Norfolk on Tuesday, March 4 for a match-up with old CAA rival Old Dominion (4-2) at 3:00 p.m.
The Spiders close out the consecutive action at home against the Keydets of VMI (2-5) on Wednesday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Pitt Field.
Richmond resumes play on Saturday, March 8 in a three game series with Princeton after taking a two-day break. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

AGAINST THE STATE
Richmond hosts Virginia on Monday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. The Cavaliers hold a slight edge over the Spiders with a 65-54-2 series record. The last three years have seen the pair split the home and home series. Following the Virginia match-up, the Spiders head toward the coast for a contest with Old Dominion on Tuesday, March 4 at 3:00 pm. The old CAA rival leads the series 54-49 and has won the last four outings against the Spiders. Virginia Military Institute comes to town on Wednesday. The battle between the Keydets and Spiders is slated for 2:00 p.m. Richmond leads the series 98-31 and has won the last three meetings. In the 70's, the Spiders dominated the Keydets winning every meeting between them from 1971 to 1981 (26-0).
HOME RUN DERBY
In Richmond's first game against Drexel at the Charleston Crab House Challenge hosted by the Citadel, senior Vito Chiaravalloti launched his first home run of the season. In that same inning, senior Bryan Pritz, and freshman Ben Zeskind added to the weekend tally, blasting homers against Kentucky. Zeskind's home run provided the game-winning hit and RBI in the 11-10 victory over the Wildcats.
