Ben Zeskind wanted a fresh start. The University of Richmond needed a player. Both got what they wanted.
A native of Miami, Zeskind was a medical redshirt at the University of Florida last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right arm. He was a former second-team all-state selection in Florida. So what's he doing playing third base for the 10th-ranked Spiders (19-2)?
With a different coach (Pat McMahon) than the one who recruited him (Andy Lopez), Zeskind wasn't sure how much play- ing time he would be getting this season.
"Because of the coaching change and the numbers [of players] in the program, he looked into transferring to a place where he'd have a chance to play," said McMahon, a former coach at Old Dominion.
"I wanted to go somewhere where they wanted me and where I could make an impact right away, and this was the place to do it," Zeskind said.
