Women's Hoops Prepares for Atlantic 10 Tournament

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond will play St. Bonaventure University in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 women's basketball tournament on Thursday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. The first three rounds of the tournament will be held in Kingston, Rhode Island with the championship game being played at the home site of the highest seed involved.
The Spiders (18-9, 9-7 Atlantic 10) finished third in the western division and face the eastern division's lowest team, St. Bonaventure (6-21, 3-13 A-10) in the second game of the tournament. If Richmond wins its first round game, the Spiders will face eastern division #2 seed Temple on Friday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. in second round action.
Earlier in the season, Richmond dealt the Bonnies a 72-49 loss on their home court in an Atlantic 10 televised game. The Spiders were led by a triple-double (20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) from junior Amber Goppert (Malone, N.Y.).
In the 2002 Atlantic 10 Tournament, #2 seed Richmond suffered an 85-73 loss to Massachusetts in the second round of play.
The Spiders, under first year head coach Joanne Boyle, have recorded the most wins in a season since the 1991-92 squad recorded 19 victories.
