Baseball Takes Second A-10 Road Trip of the Season

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond heads to Dayton for its second Atlantic 10 road series of the season. The squads will play a Noon doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 and conclude the series at Noon on Sunday, April 13. Live stats will be available through RichmondSpiders.com.
The Spiders and Flyers meet for the first time last year at Richmond's Pitt Field. Richmond swept Dayton, taking a 3-0 series lead. This will be the first time that the Spiders have played at Stuart Field.
Below are some Game Notes for the Dayton series:
IN THE DUGOUT
The Spiders belted back-to-back home runs in two consecutive games during the week of March 31 ... Freshman Ben Zeskind went 7-for-7 for two consecutive games (4/2-4/5) with two home runs ... Eight Spiders, six of them starters, are batting over .300 ... Zeskind leads the squad with .392 ... Jim Fasano has plated 30 Spiders .... Zeskind and leftfielder Michael Galligan follow the first baseman with 21 RBI ... At the plate, the Spiders have belted 58 doubles ... Vito Chiaravalloti and Zeskind lead the team with seven apiece ... Ten Spiders, including the starting nine, all have three or more ... Spider pitchers have struck out 287 batters, averaging 9.57 a game ... The Richmond pitching staff has a 3.03 ERA, while opponents have a 5.84 ERA ... Junior Tim Stauffer leads the bullpen with 79 strikeouts ... Richmond posted the third best start with one loss (13-1), following 2002 (15-1) and 1935 (14-1) ... The Spiders enter their second year as a member of the Atlantic 10 ... They claimed the regular-season West Division title after posting a league-record 22-2 mark ... For the month of April, Richmond will play nine home contests ... The Spiders hit the road for 10 away games ... Of those, three stay within state lines and seven go out of Virginia ... Six of the away games are A-10 series at Dayton and La Salle.
ATLANTIC 10 ACCOLADES
Richmond grabbed two Atlantic 10 accolades for the week of April 7. Spiders first baseman Ben Zeskind received Rookie of the Week citation. Fasano earned the honor for delivering the game-winning two-RBI double and belting four home runs. Zeskind went on a 7-for-7 hit-streak for two games to earn his third accolade. Richmond had a Spider baseball player receive Atlantic 10 honors from the beginning of the season through March 17. Junior righty Tim Stauffer has earned two-consecutive Pitcher of the Week honors (Mar. 10 & 17) for striking out a career-high 15 batters in 8.0 innings. Joining Stauffer as a Pitcher of the Week honoree, senior Andy Givens received the honor for the week of Mar. 3 after collecting the win over Delaware State. The first week (Feb. 24) Richmond was eligible for the award, Bryan Pritz collected Player of the Week for his five-game RBI explosion vs. Kentucky.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
In the top of the fifth, with a runner on second and no outs, Richmond's ace Tim Stauffer struck out a Rhode Island batter looking to break Sean Gavaghan's career record of 291. The preseason All-American has fanned 79 this season and amassed 295 during his career. Stauffer already holds the single-season record at 140 from last year's performance.
