HARRISONBURG, Va. - Freshman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) went 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBIs in Richmond's 14-7 win over James Madison. Joining Zeskind in the 17-hit attack, teammates Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.), 3-for-4 and three runs, and Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.), 2-for-4 with two home runs, helped improve the Spiders to 21-5 overall, while James Madison fell to 15-12.
Richmond took a 3-0 lead in the first, which they would not relinquish. Junior Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) touched home on a Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) groundout. After singling to right center field, shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) stole second, advanced to third on Chiaravalloti's groundout, and scored when Zeskind reached on an error by JMU's Travis Ebaugh. Zeskind then tallied the third run of the frame on an Adam Tiball (Bethesda, Md.) double down the left field line.
JMU responded to Richmond's 3-0 lead, scoring a run in both the first and second. The Spiders answered, increasing their lead to 6-2 with one run in the second and two in the third. Reaver singled, plating LeNoir in the top of the second inning. The Spiders then ripped consecutive solo home runs in their half of the third. Leading off the frame, Zeskind stroked his fourth homer of the season over the center field fence. Fasano followed, ripping his fifth home run into right center field.
The Spiders continued to add to the tally, putting up two more runs in the fourth frame and four in the sixth inning. LeNoir singled to start the inning and then touched home on a Reaver single. Chiaravalloti plated Reaver on his first double of the day for the second run of the fourth. In the sixth, LeNoir got the Spiders started again on his third single of the contest. The second baseman then stole home during Zeskind's at-bat. Zeskind belted a single up the middle to score Chiaravalloti. Fasano then launched his second homer of the day, plating Zeskind to take a 12-2 lead.
JMU tacked on five runs in the sixth and seventh, while the Spiders added two more runs in the eight. Zeskind blasted his fourth hit of the day for a RBI double, scoring Reaver. The third baseman then added Richmond's 14th and final run on a Fasano sacrifice fly.
Richmond's Matt McLoughlin (San Diego, Calif.) scattered 10 hits in 5.2 innings. McLoughlin (5-2) struck out three Dukes, while allowing only five runs. JMU's Rick McKernan took the loss, falling to 1-6. JMU's Eddie Kim led the Dukes going 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI.
