Ruth Chege Prepares for NCAA Track and Field Championships

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond senior Ruth Chege (Mohnton, Pa.) is set to compete in the 1,500-meter race at the 2003 NCAA Track and Field Championships this week. Chege was the only Richmond student-athlete to qualify for the national event.
The Championships will be held June 11-14 at California State University in Sacramento, California.
Chege received an at-large bid after finishing eighth at the East Regional Track and Field Meet. The Atlantic 10 Champion qualified for the event with 4:20.12 time at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 17.
Chege's qualifying mark places her 21st among the event's 28 competitors. The fastest seed time (4:10.72) was recorded by Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona.
