UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) garnered his first All-American honor after being named to Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-American Team. The award is given annually by Collegiate Baseball. Joining Zeskind in accruing more Spider accolades, senior Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) received Academic All-Atlantic 10.
An Atlantic 10 second-team selection, Zeskind led the Spiders in batting (.366) all year. The designated hitter/third baseman had a nine-game hit streak and earned four Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week selections. He belted 22 extra-base hits and stroked 24 multiple-hit games as a first year starter.
A 15th round draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays, Chiaravalloti earned Academic All A-10 after posting a 3.16 GPA. The all-time home run, RBI, run and total bases leader hit .306 this season. He ended his Spider career batting .329 with 61 home runs and 245 RBI. A psychology major, Chiaravalloti was also a two-time All Atlantic 10 selection.
The A-10 Champion Spiders (48-15) made their second-consecutive trip to NCAA Regionals. After two wins on Saturday, the Spiders bid for a second consecutive trip to the Super-Regionals was halted by the host, Stanford, on Sunday.
