UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Former University of Richmond women's basketball player Ebony Tanner recently signed a contract to play with Maccabi Ashdod of the Isreali Women's Basketball League. Tanner will depart for Israel in the early fall with the league's first games beginning in mid-October.
Based in Ashdod, a port town located 20 miles from Tel Aviv, Maccibi Ashdod finished last season with a 9-4 mark after advancing to the league play-offs. Eight teams form the Israeli Women's Basketball League with the top four teams competing for the championship.
Tanner led the Spiders in scoring last season, averaging 16.2 points per game, and ranked second in rebounding (8.1 rpg). Scoring her 1,000th point last season, Tanner finished her career as one of only four Richmond players to score over 1,000 points and grab more than 500 rebounds.
