Three Spiders Selected To Pre-Season All-Conference Football Squad

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- University of Richmond seniors Joe Wilson were selected pre-season All-Atlantic 10 First Team while junior Clifton Coker was selected to the Second Team in a vote taken by the league's coaches it was announced today at the annual A-10 Media Day in Philadelphia. The Spiders were chosen ninth in the pre-season coaches' poll.
A native of Woodbridge, Va., Boyd Ouden caught 37 passes for 817 yards, seventh best on Richmond's all-time, single-season reception yardage list, last fall. The 6-1, 190 wide receiver tied for the team lead with seven touchdowns.
Wilson, the Spiders' starting left tackle, was chosen pre-season All-America by two publications. The Doylestown, Pa. native has started 34 games during his career for ninth-year head coach Jim Reid. Wilson earned All-Conference honors following the 2002 season.
Coker is the Spiders' leading returning tackler after posting 57 stops (31 stops) in 2002. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native made nine tackles for loss and six sacks while starting all 11 games on the defensive line.
Richmond opens the 2003 season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 against Delaware in Newark. The Spiders and Blue Hens will be televised by CN8. Richmond's first home game is Saturday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. against Rhode Island. That contest will be broadcast by the Atlantic 10 Television Network.
