Football Drops Season Opener, 44-14, At Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - NEWARK, Del. - Senior Bryson Spinner completed 16-of 34 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in his first game as a Spider, but #11 Delaware defeated the visitors, 44-14, before 21,388 at Delaware Stadium.
Sophomore Stacy Tutt caught seven passes for 101 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown in the second quarter that closed the gap to 17-14. The Blue Hens capitalized on four Spider (0-1, 0-1 A-10) turnovers, scoring 28 points.
Andy Hall threw for three touchdowns, including a 38-yard pass to Justin Long. Hall, who finished 18-for-25 for 196 yards, connected with Long to put the Blue Hens (2-0, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) ahead 17-7 with 12:16 left in the second quarter. Long had five receptions for 78 yards.
Hall also threw touchdown passes to Brian Ingram for 11 yards in the second quarter and Sean Bleiler for 3 yards in the third quarter. The pass to Ingram gave the Blue Hens a 24-14 lead at halftime.
The Spiders' other score was on a 2-yard run by David Edwards. The team had three fumbles and one interception as Richmond gained just 108 yards on the ground.
Delaware's Germaine Bennett had 26 carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns. His 3-yard run in the first quarter gave the Blue Hens a 10-0 lead.
The Blue Hens had 25 first downs and 450 total yards.
