CHARLESTON, S.C. - Richmond's freshman duo of Lauren Brown and Ashley Lambert are developing quite a competition and leading the Spider women's golf team to record lows.
After Brown carded a single-round, program-low 74 in the first round of the inaugural Cougar Classic on Monday morning, Lambert improved on her first-round 80 and matched Brown's record-setting 74 in the second round this afternoon.
Those outstanding performances have helped Richmond break its single-round record in consecutive efforts. The Spiders combined for a 326 in the first round, and broke that team record with a second-round 321. Their two-round 647 places them 15th overall.
Lambert, competing in her first collegiate tournament, is currently tied for 33rd with a 154 (80-74). Brown, also making her collegiate tournament debut, is one stroke behind with a two-round 155 (74-81) and tied for 37th.
Sophomore Whitney McComis improved seven strokes with an 81 in the second round to post a 169 at the Yeamans Hall Golf Club. Sophomores Lauren Ritter (88-85-173) and Elizabeth Cushing (84-90-174) also contributed to the record rounds.
The final round of the Cougar Classic will be played tomorrow morning. Live stats are available at golfstat.com.
