RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Ramod Marshall scored six of his 18 points during a 14-2 Dayton spurt in the second half Wednesday night as the Flyers held off Richmond 55-50.
Dayton (13-3, 3-0 Atlantic 10) took a 50-44 lead with 5:05 remaining after the burst. The Spiders closed within a basket late in the game, but never pulled even again.
The Spiders (8-8, 1-3) used a 16-7 run to start the half to turn a 3-point deficit into a 42-36 lead with 11:15 remaining. Richmond then missed its next six field goal attempts until Reggie Brown's layup ended a span of seven minutes without a field goal.
Marshall sealed the victory by making two free throws with 16 seconds remaining. He also had seven assists and two steals. Mark Jones scored 13 for the Flyers.
Mike Skrocki led the Spiders with 19 points, but no one else had more than nine as Richmond shot just 34 percent from the field. The Spiders were 3-for-15 on 3-pointers.
