UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer Class of 2004 will be recognized on Friday night in a brief pre-game ceremony. These six seniors have all shown tremendous dedication to the program throughout their careers. Winning 41 contests, they captured the program's first Atlantic 10 Championship in 2002 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the Women's Soccer College Cup that same year.
Megan Cox has appeared in 51 contests with 45 starts. After posting seven shutouts last year, she was honored to the NSCAA/adidas All Mid-Atlantic second team and the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team. She currently ranks second in the program record books for both career saves with 203 and career shutouts with 18. In addition, her current career goals against average of 1.10 ties her for the top spot.
Lyndal Hegamyer has played in 71 contests, making 62 appearances in starting line-up. Last season, she was one of just two players to start all 22 contests. She scored her first career goal against James Madison in 2002 and has taken 17 shots. A vital part of the Spider defense, she has helped contribute to the Spiders' goals against average of just 1.03 throughout the past three seasons.
Jessica Marino has played in 72 career contests and made 18 starts. The tri-captain has scored ten goals, including four game-winning tallies, and recorded eight assists throughout her career. In 2002, she scored the game-winning goal in the Spiders' 1-0 upset of #15 Clemson in the first round of the NCAA College Cup.
Meghan Ogilvie has appeared in 64 games and started 53 of those. A two-time captain, last year she was named to the NSCAA/adidas All Mid-Atlantic third team and both the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team and All-Championship team. In 2002, she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championships after recording two goals and one assist in the title contest. She has scored 11 career goals and added seven assists.
Whitney Sikes has played in 75 games and made 55 appearances in the starting line-up. The past two seasons, she has scored the Spiders' game-winning goal in the semi-final's of the Atlantic 10 Championships and was named to the 2002 All-Tournament team. She currently ranks fifth in the program's record books for career goals with 18 and fourth for career shots with 161. In 2002, she led the team in scoring with nine goals and paced the team with four game-winners.
Olina Vidarsdottir has played in 33 games, making 31 starts, in her two year career with the Spiders. Last year, she scored three goals, including the game-winner against Dayton, and added five assists, second-best on the team. Earlier in the season, the tri-captain scored two goals in Richmond's win over La Salle.
