Women's Soccer Faces Challenging Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer team travels to the Buckeye State this weekend for contests against defending Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton and Xavier. The Spiders and Flyers play on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in a regionally broadcast game before Richmond takes on Xavier on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. In addition, Friday's contest will be available on GameTracker through the Richmond website.
Richmond (7-5-1, 5-2-0) is coming off a pair of shutout wins over conference opponents St. Bonaventure (1-0) and Duquense (2-0). This week, the Spiders hold the #15 spot in Soccer Buzz's Mid-Atlantic Region rankings.
#27 Dayton (14-1-0, 7-0-0) was last in action on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Rhode Island. The Flyers have won 14 straight contests, which trails only #2 Notre Dame for the longest current win streak. Reba Sedlacek, the reigning conference Player of the Week, leads the team with ten goals.
The Spiders and Flyers have met six times in the past with Dayton holding a 4-2-0 edge in the series. Last year, Richmond defeated Dayton 1-0 during the regular season but fell to the Flyers 3-0 in the finals of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Xavier (4-10-1, 3-3-1) fell to Massachusetts 2-0 last Sunday afternoon. Lauren Giesting currently leads the Musketeers with four goals.
Richmond and Xavier have met three times in the past and the Spiders hold a 2-1-0 advantage. In the team's last meeting, the Spiders recorded a 2-0 win.
