Three plays later, Clarkson found Ellis for a 16-yard scoring pass- Ellis' eighth of the season. The extra-point gave Hofstra a 14-point lead at 31-17.
After Richmond went three-and-out, the Pride took over on their own 35. After a Richmond personal foul moved the ball to midfield, Irby rushed 17 yards to the Spider 33. Huggins rushed for six to the UR 27 before Clarkson again found Ellis for a 27-yard touchdown with 3:47 to play in the quarter.
While the Hofstra offense was clicking in the second half, the Pride defense was stopping the Spider offense, holding Richmond to just 123 yards of offense and no points in the second half. Midway through the fourth quarter, Clarkson found Ellis streaking down the Pride sideline for a 70-yard scoring pass and a 45-17 lead with 6:42 to play in the contest.
