UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer team posted its eighth consecutive winning season after making its fourth straight appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championships this year. The Spiders ended the 2004 campaign with an overall record of 10-8-1 and a conference mark of 7-4-0.
In their season-opening weekend, the Spiders split decisions against in-state schools, falling to James Madison before defeating cross-town rival VCU. Richmond lost two straight (#8 Clemson and Oregon State) before tying Seton Hall in the consolation game of the VCU/Alltell Invitational. On September 15, Richmond knocked off #7 Tennessee with a 1-0 victory at First Market Stadium.
The Spiders opened conference play with a loss to George Washington but came up victorious in the next three outings with wins over Fordham, La Salle and Massachusetts. After dropping a 2-0 decision to Rhode Island, the Richmond concluded its home season with a pair of wins against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne.
Ending their regular season with a 2-2 record, the Spiders topped Xavier and Temple, but fell to #27 Dayton and Saint Joseph's.
Richmond qualified for its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championships, earning the #3 seed and defeated host Massachusetts 1-0 in the opening round. In semi-final action, the Spiders held second-seeded Rhode Island scoreless until the 80th minute before dropping a 1-0 decision.
Below is an individual review of the 2004 season.

#2 Meghan Ogilvie (Sr., MF, Springfield, Va.) Started all 19 contests ... team tri-captain ... one of five players to lead the team in scoring with three goals ... ranked second in points with eight ... recorded three assists ... scored game-winning goal against Massachusetts (10/8) during the regular season ... led the team in shots ... named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team.
#3 Jessica Marino (Sr., F, Poland, Ohio) Played in all 19 games, started three ... team tri-captain ... recorded one assist ... attempted eight shots ... assisted on Carrie Holland's game-winning goal against #7 Tennessee (9/16).
#4 Carrie Holland's (Fr., F, Pittsfield, Mass.) Appeared in all 19 games, making 11 starts ... only freshman to play in every game ... scored two goals, both game-winners, and added two assists ... tallied game-winner against #7 Tennessee (9/16) ... earned two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors and one Player of the Week honor ... named to Soccer America's Team of the Week (9/21) ... selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team ... earned All-Tournament honors at the VCU/Alltel Invitational.
