AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Richmond women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Rhode Island today in the semifinals of the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championships. The Spiders fall to 10-8-1 while the Rams improve to 11-8-2.
After a scoreless first half, second-seeded Rhode Island scored with under ten minutes remaining in the game. Melanie Kasparek scored her ninth goal of the season off a pass from Thorunn Jonsdottir.
Senior Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland) led Richmond with three shots and classmate Meghan Ogilvie (Springfield, Va.) added two.
The Spiders attempted nine shots to the Rams' seven.
Junior goalkeeper Kelly Kolker (McLean, Va.) made four saves for the Spiders.
Rhode Island will meet #1 Dayton on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the title contest.
