Gaston Moliva Earns Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman forward Daon Merritt earned the honor on Dec. 7.
Emerging as one of the league's best young post players, Moliva is fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 1.29 blocks per game. He swatted three against Xavier in a Tuesday night loss, to go along with 11 points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes. In Saturday's 74-53 win against Fordham, the Cameroon native scored nine points and had three rebounds.
After 24 games, Moliva is fifth on the team in scoring (5.4 ppg) and third in rebounding (3.8 rpg). He leads the team with a 48.5 shooting percentage (49-for-101) and 31 blocked shots.
The Spiders, who have won six of their last eight contests, travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
