Track And Field Competes Strongly At VCU

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Cathy McLane (New Paltz, N.Y.) and freshman Rachel Brushett (Silver Springs, Md.) set new program marks as the University of Richmond men's and women's track and field teams competed in a quad-meet against VCU, Radford and William and Mary, yesterday at Sports Backers Stadium.
McLane took second place in the pole vault with a record-breaking 10-04.00 jump, last held by Erin Clapp in 2003 at 10-00.03.
Brushett etched her name in the record books with a 5-06 effort in the high jump that claimed a first-place mark, improving upon the 5-05.25 mark of Cathleen Campbell in 2003.
Junior Ashley Bell (Glen Allen, Va.) finished first in the 100 hurdles (14.94) and second in the triple jump (11.20M), while senior Julee Wilson (Chester Springs, Pa.) claimed first in the triple jump with a leap of 11.37M.
Senior Diane Schreiber (Johnsonburg, Pa.) and freshman Leslie Gleue (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) also turned in first place performances in the hammer (47.21M) and discus (40.06M), respectively.
The men's track and field team finished with four individual first places. Senior Kevin Rhue (Virginia Beech, Va.) second with a time of 1:57.71.
Senior Stefan O'Zwoldike (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) earned his gold medal in the 3000M steeple run at 10:43.47. Junior Charlie Ban's (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) 15:57.58 effort in the 5000M run claimed first place, while freshman Rusty Burrell leaped 1.85 in the high jump for his top-finish.
Richmond is back in action on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd in the Duke Relays at Durham, N.C.
