Baseball Completes Sweep Of Duquesne

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. - Senior A.J. Board went 4-for-4 including a two-run single in the six-run eighth that spurred the University of Richmond baseball team to a 12-7 victory against Duquesne University in the final game of the conference series this afternoon at Pitt Field.
Sophomore Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) tallied two hits and five RBI, including a two-run single in the eighth inning that scored the go ahead run. Freshman Matt McKenna (Richmond, Va.) contributed a triple and two RBI for the Spiders and Alex Wotring (Bethesda, Md.) added two hits and one RBI.
Dan Schwartzbauer led the Dukes with two hits and five RBI and Steve Maiolo contributed three hits and one RBI.
The Dukes scored five runs in the second inning, four of them were a result of a grand slam by Schwartzbauer. The Spiders answered with one run in the bottom of the frame, when Wotring singled through the left side and knocked in Board who had walked.
Duquesne posted one run in the third before Richmond recorded four runs and cut DU's lead to one, 6-5, in the fifth inning. Zeskind highlighted the inning with a two-run double to center field.
UR tied the contest at 6-6 in the sixth inning, but Duquense posted one run and took a 7-6 lead in the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Spiders clinched the victory with six runs on four hits. Zeskind and Board both registered two-run singles and McKenna crushed a two-run triple to deep center field.
John Cronin (Branford, Conn.) earned the win after allowing only one run and one hit in 2.0 innings. Junior Jason Bolinski (Hockessin, Del.) opened the contest for the Spiders and allowed five hits and six runs. Bob Reifschneider allowed 10 hits and nine runs and posted the loss for the Dukes.
Richmond returns to action when it travels to face Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2.
