UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Four University of Richmond hurlers shared the mound, as the Spiders held Towson University to only three hits in their, 7-2, victory at Pitt Field this afternoon.
Nathan Kuchta (Victor, N.Y.) started on the hill for Richmond (15-11, 3-0) and he was followed by freshman Matt Francavillo (Endwell, N.Y.), Sean Radke (Frankfort, Ill.) and John Cronin (Branford, Conn.). After Towson (10-16) tallied two hits in the first inning, the Spider pitchers allowed only one hit in the remaining eight innings.
Senior Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) went 3-for-3 at the plate for Richmond and first baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) recorded one hit and two RBI. Three players tallied one hit a piece for the Tigers.
Towson scored its only two runs in the first inning, before Richmond responded and tallied three of its own in the bottom of the inning. LeNoir singled up the middle, Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) walked and then Fasano hit a two-run double to left center. Third baseman David Thomas (McLean, Va.) recorded his solo hit of the game when he singled to right field and knocked in Fasano.
In the second inning, the Spiders put three more runs on the board, on two hits.
Freshman Josh Farkes (Boston, Mass.) ripped his second home run of the season in the third inning and scored Richmond's final run of the contest.
Kuchta posted his second win of the season, as he allowed only two hits and two runs. Steve Johnson allowed seven hits and seven runs and took the loss for the Tigers.
Richmond returns to the field when it hosts conference rival Fordham University Friday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
