UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's basketball team will be departing on Monday, August 9 for a ten-day trip to Spain and Portugal. During the visit, the Spiders will play four games, including a pair of contests against the Portuguese National Team.
Throughout the trip, the University of Richmond athletic website will be updated with journal entries and photos.
"We are so excited to have the opportunity to take this trip to Spain and Portugal," head coach Joanne Boyle commented. "It will provide an opportunity for some good early practices with our upperclassmen and see what our potential is for the upcoming season. The trip itself will allow our team to really bond as a group and experience the Mediterranean culture while playing four competitive games in a foreign country."
The nine-player Richmond travel team will spend time in Madrid, Toledo and Palma de Mallorca while in Spain before visiting Lisbon, Obidos, Sao Martino Sintra and Cascais in Portugal.
This will be the program's second overseas trip as the Spiders spent ten-days in France and England in the summer of 2000.
NCAA Division I member institutions are permitted to participate in a foreign tour once every four years and must schedule the trip during the summer vacation period between the institutions spring and fall terms or during any vacation period published in the institution's official catalog.
