UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Kristin Price, the 2002 NCAA Champion in the 10,000 meters, will join the Richmond track & field staff, Lori Taylor, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, announced today. Price rejoins two former coaches in Lori and Steve Taylor, who served as coaches at Virginia Tech in 2001.
Price, a 2004 graduate of North Carolina State, was a 12-time NCAA All-American in track and cross country during her collegiate career. The Harrison City, Pa., native helped lead the Wolfpack to a second place finish at the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
"Steve and I couldn't be happier to have Kristin joining our staff," Lori Taylor said. "She is a tremendous athlete with a lot of experience and an excellent work ethic. Her experiences will be valuable to our athletes and will help them as they develop."
Fresh off her 13th place finish at the 2004 USA Olympic Team Trials in the 10,000 meters, Price will continue her running career representing Nike.
In 2001, under the direction of Lori Taylor she earned All-American honors in the 3000 meters by placing fourth at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and in the 5000 meters where she finished tenth at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Following her freshman year she transferred to NC State, while the Taylor's left to take over the Richmond program.
"We are excited about coaching her once again as she aims for the 2008 Olympic Games," Lori Taylor said. "She could have gone anywhere in the nation to train and we feel her decision shows that Richmond has a lot to offer elite track & field athletes."
Price's list of accomplishments is unprecedented and her personal best performances in distance events ranging from the 3000 to 10,000 meters are impressive. The 11-time All-Atlantic Coast performer won six individual ACC titles in track & field while leading her team to the 2002 and 2003 ACC Championship titles in cross country.
Price, who attended Penn Trafford High School, is a native of Harrison City, Pa.
