UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer team returns to First Market Stadium this weekend for a pair of Atlantic 10 conference games. The Spiders play Fordham on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and then take on La Salle on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Members of the women's soccer team will be signing autographs after both contests and on Friday night, the first 50 children at the game will receive a free mini-ball.
Richmond (2-4-1, 0-1-0) opened league play last Saturday with a 2-1 loss to George Washington in the nation's capital. Sophomore Kelsey Blank (San Mateo, Calif.) scored her first career goal against the Colonials.
The Spiders were scheduled to play #3 Virginia on Tuesday night but the game was postponed due to weather conditions in the Charlottesville area.
Fordham (5-1-1, 0-1-0) was last in action on Tuesday night when they recorded a 1-1 tie against Stony Brook. Three players have tallied two goals each for the Rams and sophomore Holly Laubinger leads the team with seven points from two scores and three assists.
Richmond holds a 3-1-0 edge against the Rams. The teams played twice last year as Fordham topped the Spiders 3-2 in double overtime during the regular season but the Richmond earned a 1-0 win in the semi-finals of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
La Salle (5-1-2, 1-0-0) suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss to Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening. Sophomore Heather Barclay currently leads the Explorers with five goals. Prior to Sunday's contest, La Salle faces George Washington on Friday.
The teams have previously met four times with the series tied at 2-2. Last year, Richmond fell 1-0 on Halloween.
