
Women's Tennis Falls to #28 William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - William and Mary's women's tennis team, ranked 28th in the nation, defeated Richmond, 6-1, this afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
The Tribe completed the sweep of its season-opening doubleheader after a 7-0 win over East Tennessee State earlier today to improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Spiders fall to 1-1 on the season.
The match opened with doubles, where the Tribe swept all three matches to win the team point. The first completed match was on court three, where Lena Sherbakov and freshman Megan Moulton-Levy defeated Megan Wolfgram and Jelena Zivanovich, 8-2. The Tribe duo of Amy Wei and Megan Muth ranked 10th in the nation, clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Lindsay Cox and Beatrice Grasu. Winning at No. 2 for the Tribe was the team of Kate Boomershine and Candice Fuchs recording an 8-4 win over Robin Carter and Courtney Klein.
W&M took a 2-0 lead when Richmond was forced to default the No. 6 singles match, then went ahead 3-0 when Sherbakov, ranked 110th in the nation, defeated Wolfgram, 6-0, 6-1. Muth, the nation's No. 36 singles player, clinched the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Carter. Also winning for the Tribe was Fuchs at No. 3 and Moulton-Levy, ranked 33rd in the nation at No. 1.
