University of Richmond, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer team looks to capture two more Atlantic 10 wins this weekend as they travel to Ohio for matches with Dayton and Xavier. The Spiders will first travel to Dayton, Ohio on Oct. 14 to take on the Dayton Flyers, whom they have not defeated since their 1-0 victory at Dayton in 2002 in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Friday's match marks the eighth meeting between the Spiders and the Flyers with Dayton leading the series 5-2 after defeating Richmond three times in the past two years, including the Spiders' 2-1 loss to then ranked No. 27 Dayton at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio last year where Annette Isham (Denver, Colo.) scored the Spiders' only goal.
Fresh off a 1-0 victory over Fordham and a 4-2 triumph over St. Bonaventure, the Spiders head into Friday's contest 4-7-2 overall and 2-2-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Richmond keeper Annette Isham and sophomore Carrie Holland (Pittsfield, Mass.) also scored for the Spiders in the 4-2 win over St. Bonaventure.
The Flyers, 8-3-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the Atlantic 10, enter Friday's contest after three consecutive wins, including a 5-0 triumph over Temple, a 1-0 shut-out over George Washington, and, most recently, a 3-1 win over La Salle. Posing as the Flyers' biggest offensive threat, senior captain Reba Sedlacek leads the Flyers in both goals and points with six goals, three assists, 15 points, and 33 shots to her name.
The Spiders have posted 15 goals this season compared to the Flyers' 22 and have let in 28 goals compared to the Flyers' 11 goals against.
Following Friday's match with the Flyers, the Spiders will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for a face-off with the Xavier Musketeers for the fourth time in history. Currently, the Spiders lead the series 3-1 after blanking the Musketeers 2-0 the past two years. In last year's contest, Prince scored both goals for the Spiders off of free kicks from 20 and 40 yards out.
Xavier is currently 6-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 and enters the match after a 1-1 tie in overtime with La Salle and a big 2-0 win over George Washington this past weekend.
The Spiders have defeated East Carolina, Old Dominion, and, most recently, Fordham and St. Bonaventure, in addition to tying UNLV and West Virginia and falling to James Madison, Oregon State, Florida Atlantic, Virginia, VCU, Duquesne, and Saint Louis.
Freshman Jessie Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) and Holland currently lead the Spiders' in both points and goals, each with three goals and eight points to their name. Sophomore Ali LeVIne (Avon, N.J.) and Prince both trail Wolfe and Holland with two goals each. In addition, seniors Isham (Denver, Colo.), Susan Darrah (Morrison, Colo.), sophomore Christine Wrublesky (Langhorne, Pa.), and freshman Susan Boyer (Paoli, Pa.) follow with one goal each.
The Spiders look forward to their trip to Ohio and the opportunities that await them there. "A win this weekend vs. Dayton would put us in an excellent position to qualify for our fifth A-10 Tournament in five years," stated Richmond Coach Peter Albright. "Two wins this weekend would be awesome; coming home with at least one is essential."
