SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Saint Joseph's rallied from two points down at halftime to squeak out a one-point victory over Richmond.
John Newman's 25 points and Greg Beckwith's 12 assists weren't enough to stop the Hawks. The Spiders were stymied by poor shooting (42 percent) and foul troubles, as St. Joe's converted more than three times as many free throws as Richmond.
Rodney Rice netted 14 points and Peter Woolfolk added 10 for the Spiders. Maurice Martin led the Hawks with 21 points in the game played in the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University.
