University of Richmond, Va. - The Atlantic 10 announced Wednesday that four University of Richmond women's soccer players received All-Conference honors for the 2005 season. Senior Hillary Prince was selected to the first team, while Kelly Kolker earned second-team honors, as well as being named to the Academic All-Conference team. Also receiving honors were freshmen Jessie Wolfe and Susan Boyer who were named to the All-Rookie team, in addition to earning honorable mention recognition.
Senior defender Hillary Prince (Plano, Texas) was named to the Atlantic 10 first team following a standout year where she was a team co-captain, started all 18 contests, took 13 shots, led the team in game-winning goals (two), and tallied one assist and five points. She was a key part of a defense that allowed just 1.69 goals per game and was named the Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week earlier this season after scoring the game-winning goals against both Fordham and St. Bonaventure. According to Coach Peter Albright, Hillary will be remembered as one of the strongest and smartest defenders in the program's history. "She is a warrior in the truest sense," stated Albright.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Kolker (McLean, Va.) earned second team honors for her dominating play in the goal. Kolker, also a Spider captain, started all 18 games, made 95 saves averaging .772 saves per game, and tallied three shut-outs. Kolker was also recognized for her achievements off the soccer field as she was named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Kolker has posted a GPA of 3.44 while majoring in International Studies-World Politics/Diplomacy and Spanish, in addition to being a member of numerous honor societies, including the National Foreign Language Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa (National Leadership Honor Society), and the National College Athlete Honor Society, among others. According to Coach Albright, Kelly became the soul of the team. "She has had a tremendous year in goal, keeping us in game after game, willing herself to make some impossible saves," commented Albright. "She is a great captain, a great leader, and one of the finest people I have ever coached."
Freshman midfielder Jessie Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) earned All-Rookie honors and an honorable mention award after she rounded out a statistically decorated freshman year. Wolfe played in all 18 contests and led the Spiders in points (15), shots (64), and goals (six), in addition to being tied for first on the team in assists (three) and tallying the game-winning goal against Massachusetts. She earned Rookie of the Week honors twice this season, as well as being named to the all-tournament team at the VCU/Eurosport Invitational.
Freshman back Susan Boyer (Paoli, Pa.) also received All-Rookie and honorable mention honors for her solid play throughout the season. Boyer played in all 18 games, took 11 shots, and earned one goal, three assists, and five points for the Spiders. She ended the season tied for first on the team in assists.
The Spiders concluded their season with a 2-0 victory over Massachusetts and finished 5-9-4 overall and 3-4-2 in the Atlantic 10 conference.
