Richmond Coach Chris Mooney
On VCU's Defense
"VCU was the aggressor, our 27 turnovers was the effect of them playing very aggressive. They took advantage of our weaknesses and they disrupted our offensive. They were so relentless, they overwhelmed us."
On VCU's Fastbreak Baskets
"When you have 27 turnovers, you're setting yourself up for that. When they're getting steals and easy lay-ups. I wouldn't fault our effort, it wasn't about our guys not getting back. They were just overwhelming us."
On Having Trouble In the Half-Court Offense
"They were so relentless, even Louisville wasn't that relentless on defense. Louisville would pressure us full court, but then they would relax a little bit once we got in the half court. VCU was relentless the whole possession. That's a good game plan, I know it's one we will see again."
On Breaking The Press
"We try to use five guys to break the press, it's good when it's working, but when it's not, it makes it difficult to get into our offense."
On Richmond's Inconsistency
"Our consistency is definitely an issue on offense. We'll have three good possessions and then two bad. We'll have a decent half, then a bad half. We'll have two good practices and then a bad practice. We're progressing and trying to get better everyday. Tonight we took a step back."
On His Technical Foul
"My technical foul was very costly. We were down only three at the time and we didn't score much after that. When Steenberge went to make a cut, from my vantage point, I thought there was a reason he had gone down. But it's my fault because it's the referee's decision, and I probably overreacted."
Richmond Guard Peter Thomas
On VCU's Pressure
"We know we're going to see pressure with our inexperience in the backcourt. We work against it everyday in practice though and we're getting better. Tonight they brought a lot of pressure, and it wasn't so much full-court, but more in the half court."
On Being A Converted Forward Who Is A Primary Ball-Handler
"I puts pressure on me, but having Ryan Butler back is going to help and Duncan McLean has helped out a lot. The way we do it, it's not one man who breaks the press, it's five guys."
On Having Confidence In The Offense
"The problem tonight was getting into the offense. When we did get in it, we got a lot of really good looks and we got a lot of back door plays. The turnovers really hurt us. We have confidence in the offense, we just have to get better at getting into it once we get the ball over half court."
VCU Coach Jeff Capel
On Defending Richmond's Offense
"That's a difficult style to prepare for, but the guys did a good job of listening to the scouting report. We wanted to put pressure on them in the backcourt and then double the pressure when they got into the front court. Our defense did a good job causing turnovers."
On Richmond's Match-Up Zone
"They're match-up zone is tough to score against. We told the guys that we must score when we get easy chances, but we struggled to score."
On Shutting Down Richmond's Two Leading Scorers
"We did a terrific job on Bucknor and did a pretty good job on Steenberge."
