UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's soccer senior defender Hillary Prince (Plano, Texas) and freshman midfielder Jessie Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) were two of only twenty-two Division I University Soccer players in Virginia named to the 2005 VaSID University All-State Women's Soccer Team. Prince was named to the VaSID First Team for the second consecutive season, while Wolfe was honored to the Second Team following a standout season with the Spiders.
Prince, the Spiders' co-captain, had a memorable senior year in which she started all 18 contests, took 13 shots, led the team in game-winning goals (two), and tallied one assist and five points. She was a key part of a defense that allowed just 1.69 goals per game and was named to the 2005 Atlantic 10 First Team and the 2005 NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Third Team, as well as being deemed the Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goals against both Fordham and St. Bonaventure. According to Coach Peter Albright, Hillary will be remembered as one of the strongest and smartest defenders in the program's history. "She is a warrior in the truest sense," stated Albright.
Prince was a Spider stand-out last year as well as she was one of five players to lead the team in scoring with three goals, one of which was the game-winner against Xavier. In addition, she tallied one assist and 17 shots and was a key part of a defense that allowed just 0.83 goals per game. Prince earned numerous honors last year, including being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team, the Soccer Buzz All-Mid-Atlantic third team, VaSID first team, the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic second team and the VCU/Alltel All-Tournament team.
Wolfe earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors and an honorable mention award after she rounded out a statistically decorated freshman year. Wolfe played in all 18 contests and led the Spiders in points (15), shots (64), and goals (six), in addition to being tied for first on the team in assists (three) and tallying the game-winning goal against Massachusetts. She earned Rookie of the Week honors twice this season, as well as being named to the all-tournament team at the VCU/Eurosport Invitational.
Albright was extremely proud of and impressed with Jessie's performance this past season. "Jessie has emerged as one of the top midfielders in the A-10," stated Albright. "Her range and power combined with her "soft feet" have made her a great addition to our team. She has become a real leader."
The University of Virginia's senior midfielder Sarah Huffman and head coach Steve Swanson were named the 2005 VaSID All-State University Division Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, for the second straight year.
