Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Significance Of The Game For Tulane
"I thought that was very good for them, with all they've been through to come out and play the way they did. I'm very happy for them as they try to get things back to normal. They came out with a lot of emotion tonight and we just weren't able to match it."
On Richmond's Play
"Our guys were totally unprepared to play tonight. Tulane came out with a lot of energy and we just did not respond. They were so much more aggressive than us going to the ball. Our staple all year has been our defense and it just wasn't there tonight."
On The Defensive Letdown
"We haven't really given up significant scoring runs this season. We've let teams outscore us 8-2 but that's over like five minutes. Tonight we let them score in bunches."
On Getting Dominated In The Paint
"You wonder why that can happen. We think we were prepared from a technical, X and O perspective. They were just more aggressive. It's been so hard for teams to throw the ball inside against us this year, but Tulane was able to do it easily. It's disappointing for as big a team as we are."
On Richmond's Shooting Struggles
"We have to continue to work on our shooting. That's not going to be something we can change in one year. We're going to have continue to rely on our defense and when our shooting is hot we will be fine. But when it's not we have to just keep working hard and focusing on our defense."
On What Richmond Has To Do Next
"When you have a loss like this you need to deal with the adversity. You need to remain positive. It's easy to celebrate the good times, but we're going to need to stick together. Everyone contributes here for us to be successful, from the players to the coaches who actually practice on the scout team, to the managers. We have to stay together and we have to stay focused."
On Jarhon Giddings
"Jarhon is the one guy who played real well. As a red-shirt freshman we want him to really make sure that red shirting was the best thing he's ever done. He's starting for us and he's getting minutes. Anyone could say that Gaston has been better a lot of times, but we see something in Jarhon. He just has to work on his competitiveness."
Richmond Junior Jarhon Giddings
On His Shooting
"I felt good tonight, but obviously it would have been better under different circumstances. I was just trying to help the team. I've been focusing on my release and remaining calm. Sometimes when I get open I get a little excited and rush it. I just have to stay relaxed."
On Richmond's Effort
"They came out with a lot of emotion and excitement and we didn't do anything to match that. They got off to a good start and we just didn't respond."
On What Richmond Has To Do Next
"These next two games are huge. When we get back to Richmond we have to look forward to practice and work on what we need to work on. These next two games are very important as we try to head into conference play on a high note."
Tulane Coach Dave Dickerman
On The Victory
"This is just what we needed We needed to be home in the friendly confines of our arena, in our city and at our school. From our first
practice in Fogelman, I could tell that we had a spring in our step. This is only one game, but it's a special game for our school and our players."
On Playing Richmond
"Against this type of team, you have to be aggressive. We were aggressive offensively, we drove the basketball and got some easy points."
On The Play Of Quincy Davis
"One guy I am impressed with, who came back and played well is Quincy Davis. And we need him to play well. Our players look for him. For him to have 20 points and shoot 8-of-13 is a good start."
