Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Win
"We're happy to get a win, we played pretty well. I think we showed a lot by playing so well down the stretch."
"I'm pleased with the win. Wins are tough to get in college basketball. For us to come out and play well, especially defensively, is great. We'll be able to enjoy the New Year a little more now."
On Richmond's Defense
"Defensively we were terrific in the last five minutes. We did not play great the whole game, but that last five to eight minutes it was hard for them to get open shots. They didn't make a 3-pointer and that's something we emphasize."
On The Play Of The Underclassmen
"We had to play without Kevin (Steenberge) for most of the game and Monty (Sanders) subbed well for (Jermaine) Bucknor. We got a lot out of our young guys today. Drew (Crank), Monty and Jarhon (Giddings) all played well."
On Kevin Steenberge
"Kevin was hit with a forearm in the Adam's Apple yesterday in practice. That's extremely painful. He finished practice and was fine this morning, but during the game when he came out he could hardly talk, he was having so much trouble breathing."
On Richmond's Offense
"So much surrounds the offense, when we win it works and when we lose it doesn't work. So much is put into it, but what really matters is the players. The players deserve all the credit when we win. On a day like today, they played well. We got shots that we wanted to get and we made some of them. Making more of those shots is the next step. We're open with the guys, we will have a difficult time outscoring teams, that's why our defense is so important."
On The Rivalry
"I think our guys are aware of the rivalry. Rivalries are great, whether its Old Dominion, William & Mary, Virginia, and hopefully one day Virginia Tech. Any non-league game with a little bit extra is terrific."
On William & Mary
"Tony (Shaver) is doing a great job with that program. They're recruiting well and playing the way he wants them to play. They are very aggressive."
Richmond Red-Shirt Freshman Jarhon Giddings
On Pulling Out The Win
"We really picked up our intensity level. They played with a lot of intensity throughout the game, but we really picked it up at the end. Our defense intensity was key down the stretch."
On Playing Close Games
"That's why we play the game. If everything went by how it is on paper then it would be easy. Things happen, that's why you have to play all 40 minutes."
On Guarding William & Mary's Calvin Baker
"We were told in the scouting report that he like to crossover right to left and he was primarily a left-handed driver. We wanted to take that away from him. We weren't too worried about his shot, obviously he can shoot, but he showed right from the start that he wanted to penetrate and get to the basket."
On The Rivalry
"This is a very big deal, this was a tightly played game that went down to the wire. They came out with a lot of intensity. You could tell it meant a lot to them and they played hard. This is a good rivalry for the fans in this area."
Richmond Junior Gaston Moliva
On His Put-Back In The Final Minute
"I went middle and used a little hook, but I missed it. I was taller and bigger than the guy defending me so I just went back up to grab it. I had two guys on me, but I just use my body to make my lay-ups."
William & Mary Head Coach Tony Shaver
On The Loss
"That's a tough loss. I thought we played hard enough to win and well enough to win. We just came up a little short on the road. Am I happy at this point, no. Am I proud of this team, yes."
On Richmond's Defense
"They have a good defensive ball club. That's a different scheme that you don't see a lot of."
