Richmond Takes Fourth Straight By Edging Duquesne, 72-71

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Daon Merritt scored 15 points and made a layup with eight-tenths of a second left Tuesday, lifting Richmond to a 72-71 victory against Duquesne.
The play ended a tense final 11:36 in which neither team led by more than five, and answered a 3-pointer by the Dukes' Martin Osimani with 6.2 seconds remaining.
The Spiders (10-9, 5-3 Atlantic 10) trailed 37-30 at halftime and then scored 16 of the first 20 second-half points. Duquesne (6-15, 3-5) scored the next five points to tie it at 46 and the see-saw battle never let up.
Kevin Steenberge led the Spiders with 19 points. Jermaine Bucknor added 15 and Jamaal Scott had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Richmond also forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 30 points while giving it away just seven times for 7 Duquesne points.
DeMario Hudson led the Dukes with 20 points and 11 rebounds, but fouled out with 2:18 to go. Bryant McAllister and Jack Higgins each scored 15 and Kieron Achara had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
NOTES:Richmond's four-game win streak equals the longest under third-year head coach Jerry Wainwright ... Jamaal Scott notched his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds ... The Spiders have beaten Duquesne seven straight times ... Richmond's seven turnovers tied a season low (Rhode Island) ... The Spiders are now 7-1 at home ... Kevin Steenberge led Richmond in scoring for the fifth time ... Duquesne, fourth in the nation in free-throw percentage, was 14-for-16 (87.5) from the charity stripe.
