Richmond's Jobes And Crocus Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Accolades

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond track and field's freshman Ryan Jobes and sophomore Beth Crocus were honored by the Atlantic 10 Monday for their performances at the VCU Ram Invitational, March 18-19, in Richmond, Va. Jobes was named the Men's A-10 Rookie of the Week and Crocus was named the league's Women's Performer of the Week, Conference officials announced Monday.
Jobes kicked off his first collegiate outdoor season with a 16th-place finish in the 400 meter at the VCU Invit. His time of 50.74 was a team-best, leading two other Spider runners in the event. Later in the day he served as the lead leg of the Spiders' 1600 meter relay which placed seventh. He, along with sophomores Brian Gildea and Rusty Burrell and freshman Doug Rubin, ran the relay in a time of 3:26.88.
Crocus recorded two Top-3 finishes at the VCU event at Sports Backers Stadium. Friday she won the hammer throw with a toss of 159-08.00. In Saturday's competition, she turned in an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 143-00.00 in the javelin to place third behind teammate sophomore Lindsey Smith who won the event.
