Spider Track Picks Up Several Season Bests At Lou Onesty Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Several Richmond track and field athletes garnered personal bests at the Lou Onesty Invitational, Saturday, April 16 in Charlottesville, Va. The Spiders women finished ninth in the team classification with 31 points as the men garnered four points to place 17th overall.
Senior Jennifer Coles recorded a season best in the 100 meters with a time of 12.60. Junior Nicole Kurtain came in seventh overall in the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:42.52.
Three women took part in the 3000 meters for the first time this season. Freshman Kate Merrill (10:18.04), junior Jenna Downey (10:36.91) and freshman Diane Kenaston (10:46.65) all placed in the Top-15 in the event. Senior Ashley Bell and junior Kaitlyn Ryan ran the 100 meter hurdles for the first time during the outdoor season. Bell turned in a 15.00 while Ryan ran an 18.64. Ryan also competed in the high jump and finished with a height of 5-01.00.
In the field events sophomore Leslie Gleue tossed the shot a personal best distance of 34-00.75 and sophomore Beth Crocus garnered a 164-11 in the hammer to place third.
Additions to the men's squad helped bring on a number of season bests for the team. Junior Ryan Mace turned in team bests in the 100 (10.84) and 200 meters (22.83). Freshman Adedayo Oladejo also garnered personal best in those events. He ran an 11.40 in the 100 and a 23.43 in the 200 meters.
Freshman Doug Rubin came in with a season best 52.28 in the 400 meters. Freshman Andrew Harris and senior Brett Walton took part in the 110 meter hurdles and came away with times of 15.68 and 16.53, respectively.
Rounding out some of the day's best was the Spiders' 400-meter relay team which placed sixth with a 42.41.
The Spiders will return to action in the outdoor season Saturday, April 23, at the CNU Invitational in Newport News, Va.
