Spiders Record Six Season-Bests At CNU Invite And Penn Relays

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. and PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Richmond's track and field squad brought home a total of six season-bests Saturday in competitions at both the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., and the CNU Invitational in Newport News, Va.
The Spiders women's 3200 meter relay made up of juniors Danielle Eaton, Amy Thesing and Diana Morse and sophomore Nicole Erby, finished fourth overall in the 3200 meter relay at the Penn Relays. The foursome turned in a 9:09.29 which was a 13-second improvement on their previous best set at the Ram Invitational March 18-19.
At the CNU Invite, sophomores Jenna Downey and Leslie Gleue garnered three Top-5 finishes and one season-best. Downey came in second in the 5K with almost a 35-second improvement and a time of 18:07.06. Gleue placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 34-00.25 and won the discus with a 130-04.
Junior Ryan Mace ran a season-best in the 200 meters with a 22.65 to place second. Not far behind him was freshman Andrew Harris in fourth place with a season-best of 22.80.
Harris also notched a season-best time of 15.51 in the 110 hurdles to place seventh overall. Freshman Brooks York garnered a second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-04.00.
The Spiders will have conference championships in their sites next weekend when they travel across town for the Atlantic 10 Championship meet. Two-day action at Richmond's Sports Backers Stadium will get underway with the heptathlon and decathlon, Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m.
