HARRISONBURG, Va. - Sophomore Ali LeVIne (Avon, N.J.) and freshman Jessie Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) each scored their second goal in as many games as the University of Richmond women's soccer team blanked East Carolina 3-0 Sunday in the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational.
Sophomore Christine Wrublesky (Langhorne, Pa.) scored her second-career goal 21:57 into the match, blasting an unassisted shot from 20 yards for what proved to be the game-winner.
Richmond (1-1-0) out-shot East Carolina (0-2-0) by a commanding 21-3 margin, including 10-1 in the first half, but only led 1-0 at the break.
Just 4:20 into the second half, LeVine scored her second goal of the year, also unassisted, from eight yards for a 2-0 advantage. Wolfe finished the scoring in the 66th minute when she took a pass from freshman Susan Boyer (Paoli, Pa.) and beat the keeper from seven yards out to tie LeVine for the team lead in goals through two games. LeVine and Wolfe both earned all-tournament honors.
Richmond senior goalkeeper Kelly Kolker (McLean, Va.) and freshman Kate Hudson (Clarksville, Md.) combined on the shutout in net. Kolker made two saves in 79 minutes and Hudson turned back one shot in 11 minutes of action.
Richmond returns to action on Friday when the Spiders play Oregon State at 5 p.m. in the UNC Greensboro adidas Classic. Richmond will then play Old Dominion next Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Spiders play in the VCU/Eurosport Invitational the following week, before their home opener against West Virginia on Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
