Richmond made just four 3-pointers in 24 attempts, snapping a streak of nine-straight games with at least six 3-pointers. The four 3-pointers was tied for the second most made in a game this season. The Spiders had made a season-high 10 on Wednesday in the win over Saint Louis.
Richmond lost for just the second time in seven games when both seniors Kevin Steenberge and Jermaine Bucknor score in double figures.
The Spiders 31.3-percent shooting was their fourth lowest shooting percentage of the season.
Richmond had just 10 turnovers, the second lowest number in a game this season. The Spiders had a season-low nine turnovers against Saint Louis on Wednesday giving them just 19 turnovers in the last two games.
Junior Gaston Moliva tied a season high with eight rebounds.
Both of Richmond's 6-foot-11 centers made 3-pointers. Steenberge has now made five 3-pointers in the last two games and sophomore Drew Crank has connected on treys in back-to-back 3-pointers.
Junior Peter Thomas dished out four assists and leads the team with 51 on the season for a 2.83 average.
Rhode Island only had one more offensive rebound than Richmond (14-13), but the Rams scored 18 second-chance points compared to just two for the Spiders.
After playing 11 of the first 17 games at home, Saturday's game started a stretch of playing seven of the next 10 games on the road. The Spiders are 1-4 as the visiting team this season.
