LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Richmond women's golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams at the highly competitive Kentucky Wildcat Invitational played Saturday and Sunday at the University Club.
The Spiders shot a 324 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament at 979 (337-318-324), which put Richmond two strokes behind East Carolina (977) and three strokes ahead of the host Kentucky.
Richmond sophomore Rosario Germino tied for 35th to lead the Spiders, shooting a 242 (82-80-80) under very tough conditions on the par-72, 6,157 yard University Club course.
"The course conditions were hard all weekend," Richmond head coach Leighann Rastede Albaugh said. "The wind was heavy and constant, and there were 30-mile per hour gusts on Saturday, and the course was wet. They were some of the worst conditions I've ever seen. I'm not making excuses, because everyone was struggling under the conditions."
Freshman Lauren Folgosa finished tied for 50th at 245 (84-81-80) and senior Ashley Lambert was tied for 58th at 247 (85-78-84). Freshmen Victoria Kidder and Anne Sprick tied for 62nd at 251. Kidder shot 86-82-83, while Sprick went 91-79-81.
"The freshmen are gaining valuable experience playing alongside some of the top teams in the country," Rastede Albaugh said. "We're excited to host our own tournament in two weeks."
Richmond hosts the Spider Fall Invitational on Oct. 16 and 17 at Virginia Crossings Golf Club.
