UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomores Sarah Hilt and Jessie Wolfe and junior Anne Hazel led the Richmond women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Xavier in its final match of the season on Sunday afternoon at First Market Stadium. Freshman Nora Mann assisted on the first two goals in the Spiders' win.
"We got some great goals and it was a beautiful day," stated head coach Peter Albright." "It was a great way to remember the careers of our seniors."
"Mairead (Gordon) played one of the best games of her careers. She marked a great player, played with great energy and played great in the air. Dani (Amarant) gutted it out once again for us and played so hard. She gave us great leadership."
Richmond put its first score on the board at 30:56 after Wolfe, Sarah Hilt on the left wing. Hilt then took several dribbles before shooting the ball past Xavier's Kelly Farrell to earn her first goal of the season and the second of her career.
The Spiders and the Musketeers each entered the halftime with three shots on the board, with Richmond holding a 1-0 lead.
Wolfe came out and poured on the pressure in the second half, hitting the left post with her first shot just three minutes into the half and then striking another ball just wide after stealing the ball and beating an Xavier defender for the shot. Just 33 seconds after her missed shot, Mann assisted Wolfe on her first goal of the season as she ripped a shot from over 25 yards out that soared past the keeper.
Just over 11 minutes later and with just under 11 minutes left to go, Hazel dribbled down the right side of the field before knocking the ball past Farrell for her first collegiate goal, securing the Spiders' 3-0 win.
Richmond's Hudson registered five saves in the net to acquire her second shutout of the season, while Farrell recorded two saves in goal for the Musketeers.
The Spiders improved to 3-13-2 overall and 3-6-0 in the A-10 with Sunday's win, as Xavier fell to 7-10-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the A-10.
"It's great to finish with a win," concluded Albright. "It's a good picture to keep in mind as we begin our winter training."
