Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On the win:
"Of course we're very excited to be able to win the game with so many freshman, so many of them had huge rules in the game. For us to be able to win a game like this, for us to have the backbone and resolve to win this game, I think that is very impressive."
On the play of senior Peter Thomas:
"Pete deserves so much credit, there's a former walk-on with 16 (points) and 7 (rebounds), 37 minutes and no turnovers."
On Geriot's game-tying 3-pointer:
"We were just able to react to what the defense did."
On committing just six turnovers:
"To have six turnovers in a game where the majority of the minutes are played by freshmen in their first college game is impressive."
Senior Peter Thomas
On so many freshmen making their debut tonight:
"I think the nerves showed a little bit at first, but as the game progressed everybody became more comfortable out there. It's great to come out in the first game and see the freshmen and everybody else holding it together. When we fell behind nobody got down and we were able to come back and get the win."
On making 6-of-8 field goals to score a team-high 16 points:
"Being here over the summer helped a lot, getting a whole bunch of shots up. The shots tonight weren't that tough though, I had pretty good lucks. I think that's because we ran our offense very well tonight, and when you get open looks it's a lot easier to make them."
Freshman Dan Geriot
On winning the first game of his career:
"It feels nice, it was such a tremendous win. It's a good way to start things, and hopefully there will be many more to come."
On hitting the game-tying shot as a freshman to send the game to OT:
"One of us was going to shoot it. Luckily, Ryan made the guy slip up at half court and my guy just went to him, then I was open."
On Playing With Four Fouls:
"Once I got the fourth [foul] I knew I was coming out for a little bit. When I went back in, I knew I couldn't get a ticky-tack foul or anything like that."
Brian Morris
On the youth of the team:
"A lot of people may not expect a lot of stuff out of us because we're young, but I think we've got a lot of good young players."
Ryan Butler
On the preparation for the season:
"We prepared for this, we've been here since the summer. Everyone here was working hard, getting in shape, running our offense trying to learn things quickly so we could be ready for the first game of the season."
East Carolina Head Coach Ricky Stokes
On the game:
"We didn't shoot free throws particularly well and didn't defend the three and didn't rebound the ball - we didn't come up with key rebounds. We didn't execute at crucial times. By and large, we didn't deserve to win. Give them a lot of credit."
On Playing Richmond:
"Defensively Richmond stretches you, they shoot the ball extremely well. It was one of the most difficult games in 20 years of coaching."
On Geriot's game-tying 3-pointer:
"On the last play we wanted to foul up by three but Courtney Captain slipped and got us into scramble mode. But that one play doesn't mean a game."
