Men's Basketball Hosts Nation's Top Scoring Team In State Rival VMI

The Richmond men's basketball team, coming off a 10-day layoff for exams, will host state-rival VMI on Wednesday night in the Robins Center in the 122nd meeting between the two schools.
VMI enters the game leading the nation in scoring, averaging 102.1 points per game and leads the nation in 3-pointers made per game, averaging 14.7 per contest. The Keydets (5-8) are averaging 29 3-point attempts per game.
The Spiders, who are 4-4 on the season, will end their longest layoff of the season with their quickest two-game stretch of the year. Richmond plays at Wake Forest on Friday at 7 p.m.
Richmond has started four freshman in six of eight games and have six freshmen who are averaging at least 11 minutes per game. Freshman Dan Geriot leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game and senior Peter Thomas is second on the team at 11.1 points per game. Five of Richmond's top six scorers are freshmen.
After heading to Wake Forest for Friday's game, which is the Spiders' first of two meetings with ACC teams in the next two weeks, Richmond will break for the holidays and return to action on Dec. 28 in the Robins Center against Tulane at 7 p.m. That game will be part of a doubleheader with the women's team, who host Marshall at 4:30 p.m.
